Jul/Aug ‘08 report: widespread fastness
We are happy to report that the recession and high gas prices haven’t slowed us down one bit. Actually this summer is the single busiest period we have ever experienced - not only in terms of the number of events we’re working, but also in terms of individual event quality.
On July 6… we did a NASA-MA autocross at VMP. Signups were a bit down due to the season and/or the economy, but it was still a lot of fun.
On July 14-15… Jon, James, Zach, Dave, and Colin Jevens went to Summit Point’s classic “main circuit” to put on a HPDE with our friends from TrackDaze. This was as close to a perfect event as we have ever put on, with great weather and lots of track time for everyone, with very few issues.
On July 23-28… Jon took a truck full of cones and gear to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with Chris E to work the third of four “MINI Takes the States 2008″ test drive autocrosses alongside Dale & Regina B and a crew of RA locals. During this timeframe, James was at VIR with the rest of the gang working the NASA HPDE/time trial/roadracing weekend on the full course. On top of his usual duties as chief of Timing & Scoring, James *also* covered for Jon as this event’s TT Director, *and* James raced his new Spec3 #242! Meanwhile Frank instructed and handled the kart enduros. And while all this was going on, Zach was putting on a NASA-sanctioned Corvette-only two day school and autocross at VMP during “Mid Atlantic Vette Fest” with big help from our friends at Evolution Performance Driving School.
On Jul 31-Aug 4… Jon flew to LA to help Ryan Flaherty put on the fourth and final MINI event at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena (with help from Ryan’s trusted crew of NASA SoCal officials.) This was a great adventure thanks to our wonderful host. Meanwhile James was in charge of the NASA-MA “doublecross” (3-4 runs in each direction, combined score) at VMP on August 3.
On August 15-17… James and Frank headed to Lime Rock to work T&S for Grand-Am and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup series, while Jon (with kind assistance from Colin, Zach, and a dozen great instructors) handled the novice group classroom & instruction for Redline during their pre-time-attack HPDE & practice day on Saturday the 16th.
On Aug 20… we helped some friends put on a private corporate track event. Jon, Zach, Colin, and some of our best instructors were on hand to ensure a safe, fast, fun day. We also got to see some truly unique cars… for instance the only mid-engine, rear-drive, W12 powered VW GTI in the world.
On Aug 22-24… we were at Summit Point’s main circuit for the NASA-MA HPDE & roadracing weekend. James handled T&S while Jon instructed and did a bunch of check rides. This was a fantastic event.
On Aug 28-29… we were at VIR’s full course to put on another great TrackDaze HPDE with the usual team. This one went great too.
On Aug 31… we had a great NASA-MA autocross at Langley Speedway. 56 drivers showed up to test their skills around the cones. Martin Kriz got some great in-car video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZcMUjeOzvA
Astute readers will notice that we have been working simultaneous events across the country all summer. It’s definitely a good thing to be this busy!
